Origin Exploration is one of the first companies seriously exploring for gold in Liberia for over a decade. They have significant land packages in the west and south of the country, and a young, dynamic team determined to investigate the full potential of their under-explored concessions.
Origin’s first project is the Moores concession, which is located in the Grand Bassa region, near the Liberian capital of Monrovia. This project targets the Todi shear zone, a 400 km structure that extends into Liberia from Sierra Leone. The area contains significant artisanal gold mining works, with both rounded (transported) and bladed (in-situ) gold grains present in the clays on site. Soil sampling on the Moores project is complete, and Origin has also finished geological mapping and multispectral analysis over the area. The company has identified five main targets for follow-up.
The Unity project lies in southern Liberia, and Origin is following up a 2012 gold in soil campaign completed by Hummingbird. This area also contains artisanal operations, and soil sampling, mapping and multispectral analysis are complete, with three targets identified.
Origin is excited to be working in Liberia, with gold discoveries happening apace in neighbouring countries, including on territory whose geology continues into Liberia. The country is experiencing something of an infrastructure boom, with foreign investment in road paving and the palm oil and iron ore industries providing the requisite environment for development of major resources. The Birimian Greenstone Belt through West Africa is highly prospective yet under-explored, and Origin is working actively with local communities and businesses to create a discovery that will benefit all stakeholders. The company has a strong focus on ESG and is using its significant in-country connections to advance its exploration objectives.
