Regulus Resources Inc. (TSX.V: REG; OTCQX:RGLSF) are a Canadian exploration company headed by John E. Black, Dr. Kevin B. Heather and Mark Wayne. The Company was established in December 2010 and are currently engaged in exploring the world-class Miocene Au-Cu-Ag belt in northern Peru. Their main focus is the AntaKori project, located approximately 600 km north of Lima and 50 km northwest of the city of Cajamarca. The deposit of interest is primarily a copper-gold-silver skarn characterized by multiple overprinting hydrothermal systems of skarn, porphyry, and epithermal style.
<p">Regulus acquired the AntaKori project in 2014 when they merged with the previous holding company, Southern Legacy Peru S.A. Phase 1 diamond drilling commenced in 2017. The program consisted of 27 holes drilled by Regulus, 2 re-drilled holes, and 4 holes partially drilled by Coimolache on Regulus’ ground, drilling a total of 20,332.35 m. Results facilitated a conversion of Inferred to Indicated Mineral Resources in 2018, as well as the definition of additional Inferred Mineral Resource. The phase 2 25,000 m drill program started in late 2018. Its purpose was the characterization and increment of the size of the 2019 Regulus Interim Mineral Resource Estimate at AntaKori. An additional updated mineral Resource estimate is expected by 2021 gathering the information obtained during this phase of the drill program.
The region’s history speaks to the upside potential of the AntaKori project. The mining and exploration history dates to the Inca Empire at the hill known as Chupicayacu “a few kilometers west of Hualgayoc”. Hualgayoc silver mines were later discovered by the Spanish in the late 1700s producing 1,000-1,500 tonnes (32-48 million ounces (Moz) silver, with some estimates as high as 4,000 tonnes (130 Moz).
During this exploration process Regulus has continuously been in touch with the community of the region. A four-person group based in Cajamarca is dedicated full-time to community outreach programs for the AntaKori and Colquirrumi concessions. One of the outreach projects is the voluntary remediation of the Tres Mosqueteros mining concession in 2016-2017 as an act of support and collaboration with the Tingo Campesino Community.
Additional to its presence in northern Perú, Regulus also expanded its Rio Grande project, Aguas Calientes project and its other Argentina assets forming a new exploration company, Aldebaran Resources Inc. (TSX V.ALDE) in October 2018.
